Aviation Reps absent at commissioning of Anambra Airport

Representatives of relevant agencies in aviation industry were conspicuously absent at the commissioning of the Anambra International/ Cargo Airport, Umuleri in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State.

At the commissioning, neither the Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, nor the Chief Executives of NCAA, FAAN, NAMA, and NIMET were present.
However, Governor Willie Obiano explained in his speech that the DG of NCAA, Capt. Nuhu said he would not be able to make it to the commissioning ceremony but invited him instead to Abuja to pick the certificate approving the airport for commercial activities.
He also said that aircraft could not land at the airport during the ceremony because the airlines authorized to operate and scheduled flights at the airport have not connstructed their counters.
He mentioned the approved airlines as Air Peace,Ibom Air, Dana United Air and Anjets.
The Governor said seven aircrafts have landed at the airport since April 2021 when the runway was tested.
Others who spoke at the event and lauded Governor Obiano for his tenacity of purpose in building the airport within a record time of 15 months include Chief Emeka Ojukwu (Jnr), Chief Victor Umeh, former National Chairman of APGA, and Ozomkpu Victor Oye, the current National Chairman of APGA.
